Miss Universe China celebrates strong, savvy, goal-oriented women who will use this experience to become stronger better people and seek to dedicate their time and effort to improve their communities and the World. One focus of this organization is to recognize the importance of, and raise awareness about, humanitarian efforts to improve the lives of others. CHINA SOONG CHING LING FOUNDATION
In memory of Soong Ching Ling (Mme. Sun Yat-sen, the late Honorary President of People’s Republic of China), the Shanghai Soong Ching Ling Foundation was established on May 27, 1986, with the approval of the General Office of CPC Shanghai Party Committee. The organization is to carry forward Soong’s life-long devotion to the care of women and children, forge contacts with friendly organizations and individuals at home and abroad, develop the China Welfare Institute (CWI) and enhance culture and education in Shanghai and poverty-stricken regions nationwide. It also aims to promote international exchanges and safeguard world peace. Wang Daohan assumed the office as the chairperson of the foundation. Mme. Xu Dexin vice chairperson and secretary-general of CWI co-served as the vice chairperson and secretary-general of the foundation, which operates together with CWI. There were 138 council members from China and abroad. With support from all walks of life, the foundation has achieved great progresses in various fields and has become a renowned and revered foundation in China.
The funds of the foundation mainly come from donations from friendly organizations and individuals at home and abroad. With full respect to the donors, all the money is used to develop maternal and children’s education, cultural welfare in Shanghai and the poverty-alleviation programs in the economically underdeveloped areas throughout China.
Since its establishment, the foundation has been actively raising funds to support the work of CWI, established by Soong Ching Ling. Targeting poor regions, it focuses on poverty alleviation through cultural education and improving maternal and children’s healthcare facilities mainly in Hulun Beier of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, Jinzhai of Anhui province and Wenchang county of Hainan province. It also attaches importance to international academic and cultural exchanges, conducting research and co-running schools. Good relations have been built with Soong Ching Ling Foundations in Japan, the United States, Canada and Hungary. In addition, the foundation has broadly carried out youth exchanges with different children’s cultural organizations and schools in 31 countries and regions. All these efforts have strengthened the people-to-people relations with foreign countries and regions worldwide and helped promote the exchanges across Taiwan Straits.
With the development of society, the foundation has entered into a new period in the 21st century. On the basis of the achievements made in “Two Awards” and “One Festival”, i.e. “The Soong Ching Ling Camphor Tree Award”, “The Soong Ching Ling Scholarship” and “The Shanghai International Children’s Cultural & Art Festival”, the foundation will continue to carry forward Soong Ching Ling’s unfinished work. With support from all walks of life, the foundation will make the established programs play more active role to encourage the whole society to care for children and women, promote quality-education and youth exchanges with foreign countries and regions, target on cultural poverty-alleviation projects in Shanghai and the underdeveloped regions of China.
